Overview

The Nagarkot – Changunarayan day hike can start from Kathmandu. Your guide will receive you from the hotel early in the morning (4:30 AM). Nagarkot is famous for its amazing sunrise view (this package covers breakfast in Nagarkot). So it will be better if you reach there as earlier as possible. If you don’t want to experience the sunrise view you can start the trip from 8:00 AM.

It will take 45 minutes to reach Nagarkot from Kathmandu as it is 30 KM away from the city (Thamel). On fine weather day you can see sunrays hitting the Himalayas including Mt. Everest & Langtang range. After watching the sunrise view from the view tower, we will go back to the restaurant for breakfast. After breakfast we will jaunting around for a few hours and the hiking journey will start at 8:30 AM.

Program Highlights

We will walk downhill to Telkot (Bhaktapur) within one hour. Along the trail we will pass some traditional agriculture fields of mustard and wheat on terrace (Seasonal). Then we continue our hike down to Changu Narayan temple, which takes couple of hours leisure walk.

Around 11:30am we will reach Changu Narayan temple. It will be an unique experience to take a look in the temple which was built in 5th century. After sightseeing we will take lunch there and at 2:00 PM we will drive back to Kathmandu.

Nagarkot has a reputation as the top spot for enjoying Himalayan views from the comfort of your hotel balcony. Just 32km from Kathmandu, the village is packed with hotels lining a ridge, affording one of the broadest possible views of the Himalaya, with eight ranges visible (Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Jugal, Rolwaling, Everest and Numbur). However, timing is everything, as the mountains are notorious for disappearing behind cloudy skies. The best viewing seasons are October to December and March to April, when clear skies are likely.

Other than views, the town offers very little, so if you want to get out of your hotel you'll need to head to another resort, or into the outdoors. Note that if you have just arrived at Tribhuvan Airport, it's possible to come directly to Nagarkot and chill out in nature if you wish to avoid the city. Bring warm clothing after mid-October.
